Kia Sonet SUV GT Line, Better than Venue?

All new Kia Sonet is the compact SUV from Kia Motors. After getting success in more than 4 meter length SUV segment in form of Seltos. Now Kia is aiming same in sub 4 meter segment with all new Sonet.

It will be interesting to see, will this SUV perform the same as Seltos or it will do much better than Seltos in terms of sale, only time will tell. This compact SUV comes in two trims one is Tech line and second is GT Line.

GT Line gets some red touch elements which definitely give it sportier look. In addition to that it also gets some additional features, about which I will discuss below. So let’s figure out, what are the interesting features Kia is offering in its second SUV in India.

Kia Sonet design

Exterior

Kia Motors continuing its design philosophy with sonnet, it gets same signature tiger nose grill in glossy black finish with underlining of grey element. Bumper looks sporty because of dual tone type finish in Glossy grey and black.

In lighting department you get fully LED Headlamps and LED DRLs which also work as turn indicator. Both DRLs and Headlamps are in single assembly and fog lamp is located below of it. Overall lights design looks nice.

Use of chrome in door handles gives a premium look to car and there is a request sensor in driver side only. Dual tone roof rails are there in black and grey combinations. Car roof and shark fin antenna are also in glossy black colour. Here you get 16 inch alloy wheels.

From back it looks broad and you get LED tail lamps but turn indicators are halogen type. In back it has simple looking reflectors, badge of tgdi and request sensor for boot opening.

Kia Sonet Interior

As you enter in SUV you find 10.2inch touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple car play same as Seltos. But Instrument cluster is new designed fully digital including tachometer and speedometer which looks pretty impressive. This shows you information’s like tyre pressure, mileage, driving mode and traction mode etc.

This car comes with auto dimming IRVMs, Glove box without cooling function, 12v power charging port, two USB ports, center armrest with small space and two cup holders. Kia offers good sound quality with Bose 7 speakers fitted with subwoofer in it. It also gets LED sound mood lights which makes interior awesome.

One interesting feature in this price range is its front ventilated seats. Flat bottom steering wheel looks nice and you get cruise control buttons in its right and other buttons for call receive, voice command, volume control and mode are at its left.

One disappointment here is steering wheel cannot be adjusted telescopically it can be adjusted only in tilt type.

For driving you get three drive modes such as Eco, Normal and Sports you also get terrain response modes like sand, snow and mud. there is option to adjust Front seats in horizontally and vertically manner. It offers small sunroof as well.

In second row seats center armrest is available with two cup holders. Here headrest is not available for the middle passenger. Here it offers AC vents, one USB charger and Air purifier display.

UVO Connect Feature

This SUV comes with so many connected car features, company named it UVO connects. This offers you more than 57 smart features and List of some important features are-

Remote engine start with AC control
Emergency assistance
Smart pure air (in-car air quality monitoring)
Live car tracking
AI voice command

Kia Sonet Safety Features

Its Base variant comes with two Airbags whereas top end variant offers 6 Airbags which means there will be side Airbags too. You also get Traction control option with ABS plus EBD as standard. Other features are Hill launch assist, brake assist and rear parking camera with rear parking sensor.

Sonet Engine options

Petrol Variants

One is 4-cylinder 1.2litre naturally aspirated engine which develops power of 83ps and torque of 115nm and equipped with 5 speed manual gearbox.

Second is 3-cylinder 1.0liter turbo charged petrol engine. This small engine develops big amount of 120ps power and 172nm of torque. 7 speed dual clutch automatic and 6 speed iMT are two transmission systems available with this small but powerful engine.

Diesel variants

This SUV uses 1.5litre, 4cylinder diesel engine which also shared by Seltos, Hyundai Venue, Creta and Verna.

This engine produces power of 100ps and torque of 240nm when coupled with 6speed MT. but when same engine coupled with 6speed automatic it produces 115ps of power and 250nm of torque.

Kia Sonet Price

Price of Sonet is expected to be in between 7Lakh to 13Lakh. Its rivals also priced somewhere around it.

Kia Sonet GT line

First of all let’s talk about its looks, GT line gets red accents and badge of GT Line on Grille, red colour brake calipers in front, different front air intake design than tech line, red caps on wheel center, GTLine badge on tail gate and rear bumper with red lining. Its interior is all black with beautiful red stitching on steering and seats, all other things are same as tech line.

In terms of features it gets wireless phone charging facility, front parking sensors and 6 airbags, rest features are same as tech line.

Competitors

List of Sonet Competitors are not small and it is filled with big names like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300. This will also face competition with upcoming Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Toyota urban Cruiser.
